In my last blog post, 7 Quick Tips for Keeping Your Camera Safe, I included a photo of some of my friends on a golf outing (tip #5). Unfortunately, my lens had condensation on it, so my friends looked like they were standing in a fog. It was definitely not a usable photo! I promised to show a quick solution that could save it.
Here are the two versions. The new one is definitely usable, as a reminder of an enjoyable day spent together.
Amazingly, the solution couldn’t be easier! In Lightroom CC, I simply bumped up the Dehaze filter (found in the Effects Panel in the Develop Module) to 100%. Otherwise, the processing is exactly the same!
(Updated on August, 2019) Now, there are two current versions of Lightroom for your laptop or computer: Lightroom Classic and Lightroom 6. The Dehaze filter is not included in Lightroom 6. If you own Lightroom 6, you may be able to find a preset workaround to this by doing a little research on Google. If you don’t own either version, I’d definitely recommend getting Lightroom Classic!

What the camera saved as a JPG file
I shot this photo of the July 4th Parade in our neighborhood. As you can see, the sky is blow out and almost entirely white. The rest of the photo is pretty flat looking. (To see larger versions of the photos, just click on them.)
As an experiment, I downloaded the Raw photo from my DSLR to my iPad!
There is a FREE VERSION of Lightroom, that works on your iPad and iPhone, called Lightroom. (Adobe has a strange sense of humor when it comes to renaming their apps!!! This used to be the name of the desktop app…) It’s available for iPads, iPhones and Android tablets, as well. If you’re a Mac user, you can find it in the App Store in iTunes. I can’t give Android advice, since I don’t own any Android devices, but there’s always Google to explain how to do it!
In Lightroom, I was able to do the complete edit, including adding the Dehaze filter.
The original file with processing done in LR on iPad and LR Classic on laptop. Used dehaze to bring back the sky and the bike riders.
Because, I have the Creative Cloud Photography Plan (20GB), the finished photo synced to Lightroom Classic on my laptop. What if you don’t have the Plan? You can still do your edits and use the photo from your iPad. If you’re on the fence about trying Lightroom, it’s a great way to try it for free. There’s also a 30-Day Trial for Lightroom Classic! I can’t imagine photography without Lightroom. It’s like the icing on the cake!
